Abstract

Formålet med denne studien har vært å få frem søsken sin stemme i mobbesaker. Studien handler om tre søsken sin opplevelse av mobbing, og refleksjoner over konsekvenser. Problemstillingen er: «Hvordan oppleves det å være søsken til noen som blir utsatt for langvarig mobbing?» med underspørsmålet: Har det å være bror eller søster til noen som utsettes for langvarig mobbing konsekvenser for søskenrelasjonen, og for familie- og hverdagslivet? Studien har et retrospektivt perspektiv. Deltakerne er nå godt voksne og forteller om sine opplevelser flere år tilbake i tid. Det gjør at deltakerne har opplevelsen litt på avstand som gir dem mulighet til å reflektere over opplevelsen og hvilke konsekvenser mobbingen fikk for dem som søsken. I studien er det benyttet en kvalitativ forskningsmetode med en fenomenologisk tilnærming for å få frem deltakernes subjektive opplevelse. Studien omfatter dybdeintervjuer av tre deltakere hvor målet var å skape en situasjon for en relativ fri samtale om deres opplevelse. Datamaterialet dannet tre hovedkategorier: opplevelse av mobbingen, opplevelse av konsekvenser med underkategoriene; følelsesmessige-, relasjonelle og atferdsmessige konsekvenser, og opplevelsen av forventninger og mangel på støtte. Kategoriene presenteres og drøftes fortløpende, med tekstuelle beskrivelser og direkte sitater, samt i en sammenfattende drøfting og oppsummering. Funnene i studien viser at alle deltakerne opplevde negative konsekvenser av mobbingen både for den utsatte, for familien og for dem selv. Deltakerne forteller at det er spesielt søskenrelasjonen som blir skadelidende, men også deres relasjon til foreldrene. Ingen av deltakerne snakker med noen om mobbingen eller opplevede støtte fra omgivelsene.

The purpose of this study has been to get across siblings’ voices in cases regarding bullying. The study is centred around three siblings and their experiences with bullying, and reflections over consequences. The research question is: “What is the experience like of being the sibling of a victim of long-term bullying?” with the secondary question being as follows: Being a brother or sister of someone who is exposed to long-term bullying, has it compacted the sibling relations, family relations and everyday life? The study has a retrospective perspective. The participants are now adults and describe their experiences from many years ago. This puts distance between the participants and their experiences, giving them the opportunity to reflect over the experiences and what impact the bullying had on them as siblings. The study utilizes a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach in order to display the participants’ subjective experiences. The study includes in-depth interviews of three participants where the goal was to create an environment for a relatively open conversation about their experiences. The data formed three primary categories, namely: The experience of the bullying, the experience of consequences with subcategories; emotional, relational and behavioural consequences, and the experience of expectations and lack of support. The categories are presented and argued consecutively, with textual descriptions and direct quotes, as well as a summary. The founds of the study show that all the participants experienced negative consequences for the victim of the bullying, the family and themselves. The participants recount that it is especially the sibling relations that is impacted, but also their relationship with their parents. None of the participants converse with others about the bullying, nor do they experience support from their surroundings. |
