dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this paper is to examine and analyze the adaptational methods employed in the 1998 animated Bible epic The Prince of Egypt, as compared to its anteceding texts in the original Book of Exodus and its 1956 adaption in The Ten Commandments. It does this by an initial analysis of the adaptational strategies within the film itself, followed by an analysis of its reception and impact. By this effort, it aims to discover why a film that performed as well as it did, did not set a precedent for further films of its kind to be made, ultimately concluding that owing to controversies surrounding fidelity and usurpation in the relationship between the Biblical source material and its adaptations, an extensive portfolio of animated Bible epics would have been cause for much controversy for the company responsible. | en |
