dc.description.abstract | In this assignment I will give an introduction of Kinck as a short story writer, and present what constitutes his authorship as a short story writer. Thereafter, I will present a selection of the conventions of the short story genre, that have been central throughout the literary history. I will especially focus on conventions central in the European litterture and the nordic literature. Based on these conventions I will discuss why I consider that Hans E. Kincks short stories constitute an alteration in the Norwegian short story literature. To justify this, I will discuss to what extent his short stories are written in line with the genre conventions, and to what degree he challenges them. I will base this assignment on the short story "The Fiddle in the Wild Woods" from Kincks first short story collection. I will be asking the following question: Why are Hans E. Kincks short stories crucial in the turning point towards a modern short story litterature in the Norwegian literary history?
