DecentParking: insentivering av desentralisert crowdsourced datadeling
Abstract
The time spent searching for a parking spot is costly for the drivers and the community. It cre-ates more pollution, less productivity, and takes up more city space than needed [42]. This thesispresents a solution that tries to solve the problems by utilizing collective intelligence. The solutiontakes form as a decentralized application (dapp) namedDecentParkingthat enables users to shareparking-related information. By crowdsourcing information, users will get real-time data of howmany available spots the city have, without the need for an elaborate high-cost implementation. De-centParking has been implemented using CollectiveAI’sDataSharingToken (DST)smart contract.DST allows for publishing tiny data to the blockchain as a ”token,” where the publisher is the ownerof the data.In DecentParking, an incentive system has been implemented, tested, and redesigned to enhancecollaboration between users. This system contains three fundamental mechanics:Reciprocity,Gam-ification, andDifferential Services. These incentive mechanisms are designed to reward the users fordoing ”good” actions. Good reciprocal actions increase a user’s reputation, which in turn gives extrautility to the user, called differential services. Reputation also acts as game-points. These gamepoints produce levels, avatars, achievements, and a leaderboard which are gamification elementsthat are used to boost competition and engagement. Thus, the foundation of the incentive systemis essentially a reputation system. The reputation system measures a user’s contribution and trust-worthiness. The reputation system is modeled regarding the good scenarios the user can execute.Goodactions arepublishing useful dataandliking data that is useful. The reputation system is ableto identify and restrict ”bad” actions such asmanipulative liking, andmalicious cooperation. Some of the challenges when building crowdsourcing parking applications are trust, how to mit-igate freeloading, how to make users of such an application collaborate, and who owns the data. Inorder to combat these problems, we have utilized blockchain technology, specifically, the Ethereumblockchain. This study has found that blockchain technology offers several advantages for buildinga reputation system. The blockchain provides trust, it enables users to own their data. The trans-parency of the blockchain enables users to validate reputation, this means that there is no centralauthority in control of the reputation. Finally, the blockchain is tamper-proof [49], which restrictsseveral types of attacks. Data management has also been improved in order to combat the disad-vantages of using a blockchain as data storage. This thesis showcases an implemented first version of the system and based on knowledge gainedfrom implementing the first version, propose the design on the next version and the steps neededto improve the solution. The authors argue that while the incentive mechanisms of any incentivesystem need to be tailored to the needs of the system, the reputation system can be used to calculatereputation for any application utilizing theDataSharingToken (DST), given that other applicationsuse the same concept of good. The main contributions of this thesis are thus: a dapp that solves the problem of finding avail-able parking spots and an incentive system which is comprised of incentive mechanisms and adecentralized reputation system.
