Hvorfor leser man papiravis når innholdet er tilgjengelig på nettavis? En kvalitativ studie av papiravisleseres forhold til papir- og nettavis

Abstract

Sammendrag Tema for denne oppgaven er lesing av papiravis. Det blir stadig færre som leser papiravis en gjennomsnittsdag. Man finner i stor grad de samme nyhetene på en nettavis som man gjør i en papiravis. Hva er det som gjør at noen velger å holde fast ved den analoge versjonen? Fokuset i denne oppgaven er å se på bruk av og forholdet til papir- og nettavis gjennom øynene til de som leser papiravis daglig eller ukentlig. Oppgavens utvalg er basert i Trondheim, hvor regionsavisen Adressa dominerer. Gjennom deres øyne skal oppgavens problemstilling undersøkes: «Hvorfor leser man papiravis når man kan få innholdet på nettavis?» Oppgaven baserer seg på dybdeintervju av syv informanter. For å belyse tendensene i informantenes refleksjoner, brukes tidligere forskning om bruk av papir- og nettavis og implikasjoner det digitale kan ha. Informantenes syn på pressens rolle i samfunnet og hvilken betydning vaner har, er blitt satt i kontekst av Habermas’ teori om det demokratiske maktkretsløp og Garfinkels teori om implisitte verdier i hverdagsrutiner. Informantene i oppgaven ga inntrykk å ha et sterkt forhold til papiravisen. Tidligere forskning har vist at bruken av papir- og nettavis er ulik. Mens papiravis er noe man investerer tid og penger i, fungerer nettavis som et mer overfladisk påfyll. Informantene i denne oppgaven bekreftet denne tidigere forskningen. Samtidig har bruken av digitale enheter implikasjoner for bruken av nettavis, gjennom at det bryter et skille mellom to ulike hverdagslige kontekster. Det dynamiske designet til nettavis virker også å innvirke på hvordan man bruker de to ulike formatene.

Abstract The theme for this assignment is reading of newspapers paper edition. Still fewer people are reading the paper edition on an avarage day. You can find the same news in the online edition of the newspaper as you do in the paper edition. Why do some people choose to stick with the analogue version? The focus in this assignment is to look at the use of and relationship to the paper edition and online edition of the newspaper through the eyes of those who read the paper edition daily or weekly. The assignment's selection is based in Trondheim (Norway), where the regional newspaper Adressa dominates. The following approach to the problem will be investigated through the eyes of the informants: "Why do people read the paper edition of newspapers when you can get content in the online edition?" The assignment is based on in-depth interview of seven informants. Previous research on the use of paper- and online edition of newspapers and implications digital media may have, has been used to illustrate the trends in the informants' reflections. The informants’ views on the role of the press in society and the importance of habits have been put in context of Habermas' theory of the democratic power cycle and Garfinkel's theory of implicit values in everyday routines. The informants in the assignment gave an impression of having a strong relationship with the paper edition. Earlier research has shown that the use of paper and online newspapers differs. While people invest time and money in the paper edition, the role of the online edition is more of a superficial refill. The informants in this task confirmed this earlier research. Furthermore the use of digital devices has implications for the use of the online edition, by breaking a distinction between two different everyday contexts. The dynamic design of the online edition also seems to affect the use of the two different formats.
