In cooperation with Norwegian recycling company, NOPREC, tension tests and differentialscanning caliometry tests of three recycled plastic fractions have been completed. As atheoretical foundation, a litterature study has been deducted to investigate testing ofrecycled plastics, and the plastic types and test methods in question have been presented.A description of the situation for plastics and recycled plastics in the world and in Norwaytoday has been given, with a focus on hard plastics and plastic waste from the industry.Issues related to the current marked for recycled plastic waste have also been identified. The method and results from the completed testing have been presented. Furtherinterpretation of the results has been conducted, also by comparing the separate testresults with one another and in context of the conducted literature study. Thesecorrelations have been discussed and seen in relation to the current situation for recycledplastics nationally and globally. The test results indicate a slight change in the mechanical and thermal properties of therecycled plastics in comparison to the values of the equivalent virgin polymers. This changecan be interpreted as the degradation mechanisms crosslinking and chain scission. Finally, problem areas for recycled plastics on the Norwegian marked, have been identified. Thethree main problem areas in need of further development are: standards for recycledplastics, sharing of information and experience within the plastic industry, and appropriatepolitical and economic instruments.
