Sammendrag
In 2010, owing to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and furthermore to improve the energy efficiency, the European Council aimed at reducing 20% of Union s energy consumption by 2020. In that way, a large deployment of renewable energy sources is foreseen, and may have a serious influence on the stability in energy grids. Variability and uncertainty provided within the grid by variable renewable energy sources implied serious challenges about resize the power grid. Implementing flexibility in power systems has gaining more and more interest
To characterize this innovative concept, a state-of-the-art review of energy flexibility will be introduced. The impacts of variable renewable energy sources deployment is investigated in order to understand reasons to improve flexibility. The potential of exploitation, measuring and evaluation the flexibility will be develop, investigating resources and technologies used both on generation and demand side.
