Abstract
Informantene våre erradiografer ute i praksis.
Research question: What challenges do radiographers think the face during examination ofchildren in conventional x-ray, and how do they solve these challenges?
Purpose: We have got the impression that there is relatively little information and practice inchildren’s radiography in the education. The purpose will be to gather information fromradiographers in order to learn from their experiences with children in the radiologic section.
Method: In order to gather information about radiographers’ experiences with children, we chosea qualitative method. We used a semi-structured interview with 10 preestablished questions. Ourinformants were radiographers out in the field. We used Malterud’s analysis to analyze ourmaterial.
Result: Through our interviews we got many solutions on how to deal and communicate withchildren. We found out that communication is the biggest challenge when it came to children atage 2-5. We also found out how to solve different challenges, how parents can help us to improvethe x-ray examination, how to distract children and how to make the child lay still on the x-raytable etc.
Conclusion: It is essential to win trust and security in the children, and act differently in differentsituations with regards to the child’s age and cognitive development. Communication is importantin order to achieve this. It is also important for the radiographer to gather knowledge themselves, since it is so little focus on treatment of children during education.
