Automated First-Feeding and Monitoring System for Marine Hatchery
Abstract
CodTech provides the Norwegian, and European aquaculture industry with facilities for testing new techniques and equipment related to the rearing of marine fish larvae. The facilities provides cutting edge technology to researchers from countries participating in the AQUAEXCEL programme, with automated feeding, the ability to control water exchange rates for individual tanks and a solution for measuring the density of plankton in the rearing tanks.Previous efforts at the laboratory has been focused on finding a suitable software system for integrating the many different subsystems used at the facilities. This the- sis will continue this work by developing strategies for the integration of additional systems. In particular, the automated feeding solution, as well as the density measurements for plankton has been integrated with the existing system. A solution for controlling the density of rotifer by combining the available measurement and control methods has also been proposed.Furthermore, the server infrastructure at the facilities has been upgraded to better support future requirements adn to increase the reliability of the system. Efforts has also been made to ensure that the system functions correctly in the event of power outages or component failures. The strategies which are proposed in this thesis has been developed as a result of work done at the CodTech facilities. However, the overall design of the system could be used at other laboratories or even commercial facilities.
