dc.description.abstract | The technology is under development, and mental health issues among adolescents is rising
along with the use of social networking sites. This article aims to discover whether social
media has an influential factor on youth mental health.
Literature study as a method will be used in this thesis. Five peer-reviewed articles will be
analyzed. The results will then be discussed against relevant theory and possibly other
research.
The results from this study refer to two opposites in the current theme. On one hand, you find
cyberbullying, threats and harassment. These are factors that can contribute to adversely
affecting youth. On the other hand, social media creates a place for social interaction, where
keywords such as ‹‹community›› and ‹‹belonging›› take place.
