Zum Kontrollproblem adverbialer Infinitive im Deutschen

Abstract

In diesem Aufsatz wird dafür plädiert, dass das implizite (PRO-)Subjekt der adverbialen Infinitive, die von (an)statt, ohne und um eingeleitet sind, in der Regel obligatorisch (d.h. syntaktisch) kontrolliert (Engl. Obligatory Control, OC) ist, in bestimmten Fällen aber auch nicht-obligatorisch (d.h. pragmatisch) kontrolliert (Engl. Non-obligatory Control, NOC) sein kann. Die Unterscheidung zwischen obligatorisch und nicht-obligatorisch kontrolliertem PRO stützt sich vor allem auf Landau (2013), dem zufolge ein nicht-obligatorisch kontrolliertes PRO-Subjekt immer [+menschlich] sein muss, während diese Bedingung nicht für ein obligatorisch kontrolliertes PRO-Subjekt gilt. Bei obligatorisch kontrolliertem PRO-Subjekt enthält der Matrixsatz ein explizites oder implizites Antezedens, von dem PRO seine Referenz erhält.

This article argues that in general the implicit (PRO) subject of adverbial infinitives headed by (an)statt, ohne and um is obligatorily (i.e. syntactically) controlled (OC). In some instances, however, non-obligatory (i.e. pragmatic) control (NOC) is also attested. The distinction between obligatory and non-obligatory control is based on Landau (2013), who argues that a non-obligatorily controlled PRO subject must be [+human], while this restriction does not apply to an obligatorily controlled PRO. An obligatorily controlled PRO subject receives it reference from an overt or covert antecedent in the matrix clause.
