Siden høsten 2013 har det vært gjort betydelige endringer i strukturen på grunnemnene i matematikk og statistikk ved NTNU, fra januar 2014 innenfor rammene av prosjektet KTDiM (Kvalitet, tilgjengelighet og differensiering i grunnundervisningen i matematikk), ett av de innovative utdanningsprosjektene ved NTNU. Ett av elementene i KTDiM har vært å innføre ukentlige datamaskinbaserte øvinger (basert på systemet Maple T.A.), delvis til erstatning for klassiske skriftlige innleveringer. Et visst antall slike øvinger må være godkjent for å få gå opp til eksamen, og i noen av emnene vil godkjente øvinger også telle på den endelige karakteren i emnet. I starten kom det betydelig kritikk fra studentene på at Maple T.A.-oppgavene var for vanskelige, og man forsøkte å etterkomme denne kritikken ved å tilstrebe å lage lettere oppgaver. Som konsekvens kunne man gjennom spørreundersøkelser observere mindre kritikk mot vanskelighetsgraden, og det ble rapportert større opplevd læringsutbytte. Gjennom en analyse av utvalgte oppgaver gitt i Matematikk 1 i en fireårsperiode vil vi i denne artikkelen karakterisere den utviklingen som har skjedd med Maple T.A.- oppgavene i denne perioden, og koble det til studentenes tilbakemeldinger gjennom spørreundersøkelsene. Dette kan også bidra til å si noe om for hvilke formål et elektronisk øvingssystem kan være tjenlig, og om det kan være formål der mer manuelle vurderingssystemer kan være bedre.
