Barns psykososiale behov ved kreftbehandling
Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this literature study was to increase the knowledge of how children in the age group 6-12 years old master their psychosocial needs during cancer treatment at a hospital.
Method: In this study we have conducted a systematic literature search study. To find relevant research we have used PubMed and Chinal Complete. We have included three qualitative, three quantitative and two triangular articles where we have included one reviews and seven original articles. We used Evans content analysis and Fosberg and Wengstrøm during the analysis of the articles.
Result: It is equally important, if not more important, to care for children’s psychosocial needs during the hospital admission as it is to care for their physical needs Children need safe boundaries where they feel that they are being seen and understood so that the child will feel a sense of achievement. The nurse must arrange the care where therapeutic play has a central role in everyday life. Children’s experience show that therapeutic play is a part of reducing the psychosocial strains like anxiety and depression, at the same time it provides well-being and coping of stress. It has been shown that the children have great support of psycho-educational intervention groups where they talked about their experiences and problems, but at the same time they said they missed talking to other children who have gone through the same critical illness.
Conclusion: The knowledge the nurse has about psychosocial needs is crucial for the child and its psychosocial development. It is important that the nurse prepares and includes therapeutic play early on and gives the child the opportunity to talk about its needs, feelings and thoughts so that the child can experience a sense of mastery over the disease.
