ABSTRACT According to the Department of Energy U.S.A, the amount of oil produced by conventional extraction techniques only account with 1/3 of the total oil available in discovered reserves. Thus, a major concern in oil industry is the optimization of extraction procedures, such as Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods, in order to increase recovery efficiency from the existing fields. An increase in oil production will follow the economic and world demands, while we have a shortage in the supply. Most of the studies and reviews show that the amount of oil that can be extracted with primary drive mechanisms is about 20 - 30% and by secondary recovery can reach up to 40%. However, using modern EOR techniques the recovery can reach up to 60 - 65%. The latter ones are essentially designed to recover oil commonly described as residual oil. The thesis is research and experiment based on the advancement in EOR techniques by using eclipse 100 simulator. The thesis includes a current review of the latest techniques of oil recovery with special emphasis for the new advances in EOR techniques, which leads to a better oil production. The present work consists in the simulation of EOR techniques, direct Water Injection and Water Alternating Gas (WAG) injection, aiming to establish the better recovery factor for oil production between these two techniques.
