Reliability Systems Engineering for the Shell Eco-marathon Competition
Abstract
Today, companies have a great attention to their product's cost and time-to-market, to become more competitive in the global market. Reliability engineeringas one of the most important topics in system engineering is employed by compa-nies to not only assess the value of the product, but also to identify, prevent, andreduce the risks of potential failures associated with design and manufacture of aproduct. This study is conducted to implement reliability systems engineering in DNVGLFF2015 as a partial preparation of DNVGL prototype to participate in SEM 2015.The author's objective is to investigate the eect of reliability engineering onDNVGL prototype system. The scope of this thesis is mainly focused on theinitial three stages of the system life-cycle.The former DNVGL team have been faced with problems in the prototype's brak-ing system during the completion. As a result, the author decided to apply designfor reliability (DFR) techniques on braking sub-system with the aim of identifyingpotential failures and propose possible solutions to mitigate their risks. In doingso, the reliability methods including RBD, FMECA, and FTA are employed inthis thesis.
